A friend on Facebook posted this status today:
So, Larry King is getting his 8th divorce, and Elizabeth Taylor is possibly getting married for a 9th time. Jesse James and Tiger Woods are, well… you know… Even Newt Gingrich is on his 3rd marriage. Yet the idea of same-sex marriage is what is going to destroy the institution of marriage? REALLY?!?
What’s your response, Christian? Can any argument be made? Our inability to distinguish our actions from the rest of the world has made us look foolish when pushing a political agenda but not living up to our personal moral one.
You know what my response was? Nothing on Facebook. Went and got my wife flowers. The only comeback we have is to live out our gospel.
What about you?

This is why I always hate it when the Christian community pushes the idea of legislating morality. We’re are all really screwed up people. Adding more laws to the books won’t change that.

I was actually thinking Clayton has posted in a while yesterday, is CBO.com dead? It’s alive!
Yeah, sometimes, our mouths get us in trouble. If our faith and religion is based on relationships and howe we live with one another, many times, it’s better to set the example by what we do more than what we say. Then, when we do have to, or should have to say something, I think it will make our words all the more powerful.
Way to set that example and get your wife some flowers.

In the words of George Constanza “I’m BACK, baby!”
Not actually sure he said that, but I have a feeling he said something like it…

When people get divorced, it is between them and God. If we vote to legalize gay marriage, the sin is on our hands. We’re going to have to answer to Jesus how we voted, and whether it was for His heart or not.

While legality and morality will always cross, no status of legality will change the heart of anyone.
Our overemphasis on political situations and underwhelming emphasis on encouraging those espousing religious beliefs to live them has left us looking foolish and morally impotent. While I’ll never tell someone to not get involved in politics, it wasn’t a change in the Senate or the Ceaser which allowed Christianity to flourish. It was the manner in which they lived, not the power they wielded.

True. Which is why reformation must take place in the government AND in the American people. The scariest truth is what brings the greatest, most effective awakening to God: conflict. 9/11 was a good example. Almost all of America was praying for a few months. Also, all the Great Awakenings in the past have occurred during time of war: Civil war, WW1 etc. That’s scary.
Here’s the sad part: there will always be immoral, wicked people. Even after Jesus returns and Heaven is on earth (read the last two chapters in Rev.) So then what do we do? I dunno. My guess is keep reaching the nation with the most love and compassion we can while praying and taking active roles in the governmental process of making righteous laws by righteous leaders (which of course means we need to help get righteous leaders IN.)

While love should be out attitude, our dwelling place and our commitment to reach people; are we accomplishing anything by silence?
I often say nothing on Facebook… then sometimes I say a few things that hopefully bring intelligent thought to a political conversation. When it comes to legislation, I believe we have to focus on the protection of the rights we have, rather than the exclusion of others rights. I am not for the agenda being pushed in the Courts or in the pro-homosexual lobby, but that is because it can be “interrupted” by Supreme Court or future congress to affect my current rights. That’s the point of the lobbyist. Such was the same point of the anti-prayer lobby.
Let us be quite when God isn’t giving us words, let us always have open arms that offer unconditional love we are given, and let us say what God puts in our mouths to protect what we know is sacred. We MUST start holding marriage with sacred standards… I think Jesus did in fact only turn the tables over IN the temple with rage, yet didn’t he also redirect the illegal tax collector in love?? Within the church we should be more real, more disciplined & demanding of purity! But, if my mind remembers correctly, He FIRST corrected the church.
Sorry this was long ~ too thought provoking!!
